Why Support Special Programs?

Through creative thinking and collaborative planning in the liberal, visual, and performing arts, the Office of the Dean of Special Programs enriches, enhances, and expands the intellectual and cultural life of Skidmore College and the local region.  The ODSP is responsible for a rich and diverse array of programs, many cross-disciplinary in impact, that supplement the offerings of the traditional academic calendar of the undergraduate residential college and extend the academic calendar and campus resources into the summer months.  ODSP offerings target many audiences and take many forms currently including adult education and a degree program for graduate students; residences, institutes, courses and workshops in the liberal arts; and conferences.  The ODSP encourages academic innovation and experimentation, and serves as a resource for lifelong learning.

Gift Planning

The ODSP and the Office of Planned Giving offers service and guidance to alumni and friends of Skidmore College as they begin the gift planning process.  Our mission is to help donors experience the fullest possible satisfaction stemming from their philanthropy while building a secure future for Skidmore College and its students.  We build on the legacy of College founder Lucy Skidmore Scribner.

We raise funds in numerous ways to support the many programs offered to the public.  Through grants, mail appeals, foundation and corporate sponsors, donations, event fundraising and special programming, we are able to deliver high quality and enriching programs for people of all ages, cultural backgrounds and with various interests.

In the course of performing our mission, we identify opportunities to benefit donors using creative planning techniques, which can add further value to the wonderful feeling of making meaningful and purposeful gifts.  Some of these opportunities may include way to reduce taxes, generate lifetime income, and protect estate interests.

We invite you to invest in the teaching and learning that takes place at Skidmore through the Office of the Dean of Special Programs, a truly innovative unit of the College.

Testimonials
"This is my second year attending the Skidmore Summer Program... I really appreciate the fact that I am getting college credit before I even start college."
